Learning Support

Building confidence and academic skills through individualised, compassionate support

Learning Support

What This Service Is

Learning support at GOODHANDS helps children who are finding reading, spelling, or numeracy challenging. We provide individualised, evidence-based intervention that builds both skills and confidence.

Our approach is patient, encouraging, and tailored to each child's unique learning style. We focus on helping children not only catch up academically but also develop a positive relationship with learning.

Who This Service Helps

Learning support is ideal for children who may be:

  • Struggling with reading accuracy or fluency
  • Finding spelling and writing difficult
  • Experiencing challenges with numeracy and math concepts
  • Falling behind their peers academically
  • Feeling anxious or frustrated about schoolwork
  • Needing extra support to build foundational literacy or numeracy skills
  • Showing signs of learning differences without a formal diagnosis

This service supports children from early primary through secondary school, with approaches adapted to each child's age and learning needs.

How We Work

Our approach to learning support is:

  • Child-centred: We build on your child's strengths and interests
  • Evidence-based: Our methods are grounded in proven educational research
  • Family-focused: We partner with parents to support learning at home
  • Collaborative: We work with schools to ensure consistency and alignment

We begin with a thorough assessment to identify your child's learning strengths and areas for growth. From there, we create an individualised support plan with clear goals and practical strategies.

Regular progress reviews ensure your child is always supported effectively and making meaningful progress.

What Sessions Look Like

Our learning support sessions are structured, engaging, and designed to build both skills and confidence. We use multisensory techniques, hands-on activities, and evidence-based programs to help children master reading, spelling, and numeracy.

Sessions are typically one-on-one, providing focused attention and personalised instruction tailored to your child's needs.

Therapy can take place in our clinic, at your child's school, or at home, whichever setting works best for your family. Teletherapy is also available.

Parent Involvement

Parents play an important role in learning support. We provide coaching, practical strategies, and resources so you can support your child's learning at home and build their confidence.

After each session, we share what we worked on and suggest simple activities you can do together to reinforce learning. We are always available to answer questions and provide ongoing guidance.

Your involvement helps your child make faster progress and develop a positive, confident attitude toward learning.
